Very sad to see the news today that John Martyn has passed away, at the age of only 60.
I first came across him a few years ago in a fly-on-the-wall documentary and hadn't really heard of him before then, but he was compelling viewing - he lives in the middle of nowhere in some run down country house, with a cool dog, and he only had one leg, so was trundling around in a wheelchair - John Martyn that is, not the dog.
If he's new to you too, then I'd recommend checking out his 1973 album Solid Air as an excellent place to start - brooding acoustic songs that put him at the centre of the British folk movement of that time.
RIP John.
