Came across this curious little track a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to post something about it since then.
It's apparently by a guy called MC Nobody, who I've not heard of, but who's obviously British, and I think it's called Jerusalem, judging from the refrain sung out of key at the beginning of the track by someone who sounds like they're doing their best in school assembly.
The track itself is excellent though - a very modern ballad on the state of the nation that references everything from Jade Goody to Madeleine McCann, politics to religion, hoodies to knife crime - basically all the shit that this country's going through right now.
What I really like about it is the awareness that Nobody's got - it's the same thing that Eminem does, where a lot of rappers are so introspective you wonder if they do anything other than look in the mirror. But then Em will go and put a reference in about all sorts of pop culture stuff, and while Nobody's rhymes aren't as satirical as Marshall's, they ring just as true. Sample lyric: "MC Nobody, you'd better listen, And I'm gonna keep bigging up Britain / Where nobody votes for the election, but everybody votes for Big Brother eviction". Yeah, raps always look lame when they're written down, but that's all the more reason to seek it out yourself.
Not sure if it'll be a single or anything, but if I find out more, I'll keep you posted.
