Artists name their favourite artists

Great feature in the Guardian newspaper today (the most reliable place for good quality music coverage), where they got a bunch of music people to name their favourite working musician.

They all give reasons why and you can read that in full here.

The results are interesting reading in some cases, while others are a bit more predictable. Coldplay get a lot of nods, especially from the urban music crowd, which is pretty odd. Here's the gist of it...

The Killers by Little Boots
Akon by Skinnyman
Coldplay by Ne-Yo
Leonard Cohen by Mikel Jollett (Airborne Toxic Event)
Spiritualized by Florence Welch
White Lies, Prince, David Bowie and The Gossip by La Roux
Bruce Springsteen by Jamie T
David Byrne by Jack Penate
Robert Plant by Gabriella Cilmi
LCD Soundsystem by Ed Macfarlane (Friendly Fires)
Elbow by Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol)
Lil Wayne and Coldplay by Busta Rhymes
Lykke Li by Jason Mraz
Lil Wayne by Tinchy Stryder
Beck by Frankmusik
Beyonce by Vanessa White (The Saturdays)
Coldplay by Shontelle
Gilad Atzmon by Robert Wyatt
Radiohead by Brody Dalle
Prince by Scroobius Pip
I Am Kloot by Guy Garvey (Elbow)
Baaba Maal by Jon McClure (Revered And The Makers)
Tony Bennett by Tony Christie
Arcade Fire by Paolo Nutini
Cass McCombs by Dev Hynes (Lightspeed Champion)
Radiohead by Geddy Lee (Rush)
Jay-Z by Daniel Merriweather
U2 by Jim Kerr (Simple Minds)
Bruce Springsteen by James Walsh (Starsailor)
Amy Winehouse by Jerry Casale (Devo)
Stevie Wonder by Beverley Knight
Coldplay by Lemar
U2 by Danny O'Donoghue (The Script)
Bill Withers by Raphael Saadiq
POS by William Elliott Whitmore
Hugh Jackman by Mike D (Beastie Boys)

Bloody hell, that was a much longer list than I thought it would be.

And the prize for being right goes to... Guy Garvey. Not sure why being an 'urban' music megastar means you become immune to Coldplay's essential rubbishness, but they really are lining up to make the point, aren't they? Perhaps it's cool to have one nerdy whiteboy amongst your friends?
